What is LEED?

  • LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a tool for green design to help design teams and owners determine green project goals, identify green design strategies, measure and monitor progress, and document success.

  • Developed by USGBC, or U.S. Green Building Council; which is a national, non-profit organization consisting of a voluntary, diverse membership that operates on consensus principles.
  • Consists of a family of rating systems:
     LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC)
     LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB)
     LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI)
     LEED for Core & Shell (LEED-CS)
     LEED for Homes (LEED-H)
     LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND)
     LEED for Multi-buildings / campuses
     LEED for Laboratories
     LEED for Schools
     LEED for Retail 
     LEED for Healthcare
